At Grand Island Baptist Church, we have a variety of ministries to meet the needs of every member of your family. We meet for worship on Sundays and Wednesdays but our ministry groups plan additional activities all throughout the year. Whether you are young or old, male or female, single or part of a large family, there is a ministry group for you. We pray that the information you see will spark your interest about the different ministries offered at Grand Island Baptist Church.
There are many ways for your family to connect with GIBC.
Each Sunday morning our children have the opportunity to learn about the Bible in Sunday School. These groups have loving teachers who use Biblically based Southern Baptist literature provided by Lifeway.
We provide a nursery for our smallest friends (birth - 3 years) during Sunday School and morning worship service. Our nursery care is screened through background checks and provided only by members of the church. These folks love kids! We use a pager security system, which allows us to contact parents, should there be a need. The pagers vibrate to alert parents that they are needed in the nursery area. GIBC has frequent trainings for CPR and First Aid to ensure there is always someone on site with the proper emergency training.
We also offer "Children's Worship," which is a time for our children to enjoy worship on their level. Just before the morning sermon, our children are led out by our leaders to the children's ministry area where they will have fun worshiping together. They will return to the worship center during the offertory time. Children's worship is offered almost every Sunday, with the exception of certain "Family Sit-in Days" when we have the children remain with their family to experience worship with the larger congregation. These days include 5th Sundays and certain other days of the year which are announced.
Wednesday at 6:30PM - Mission Friends is a program which teaches our preschoolers about missionaries all around the world and is for 3-year-olds through kindergarten. "Island Kids" is a program that teaches children about the Love Letter God has given to us (The Bible) and a fun way to remember it. There is a break for recreation and snack too. Nursery care is provided for birth - 2 years.
Children's choir follows Wednesday night activities and 3-year-olds through 5th graders are welcome. We are working on songs that help us to remember scripture and the values God wants us to live by. Our children share with the congregation a few times each year during our corporate worship service on Sunday.
If you have questions or would like more information about our Children's Ministry, please contact the church office.
Our goal at Grand Island Baptist Student Ministry is to unite students with the fellowship of believers by developing strong discipleship, strong relationship and leadership, holding fast to scripture and reflecting Christ in everyday life. In today’s society, youth are really looking for answers. They have a void in their lives that can be filled only by Jesus. Youth need to know that God loves them and that only through a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ are they going to be able to experience the full extent of His love.
We meet on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. We have music, games, snacks and a Bible study. We also have Sunday School on Sunday mornings at 9:15 am in the same building as our Wednesday night activities. Each summer we attend a local Youth camp and it is the highlight of the year for many of our young people. See below for video from Youth Sunday where our youth share their highlights from camp.
The Women's ministry offers a time of fellowship for ladies of all ages! We meet for dinner throughout the year at different locations. We also have an annual cookie exchange at Christmas and offer several
Bible studies throughout the year.
Check the church bulletin for additional information.
If you would like to create lasting friendships while glorifying the Lord, please join us.
In the near future we will be adding even more activities to this ministry.
Each month, our seniors get together at 11:45 on the second Tuesday of each month for food, fellowship, and fun with one another at the Happy Hearts luncheon. Great food is provided, and a donation of three dollars is appreciated to offset the cost. There is usually some form of entertainment or learning opportunity provided as well.
Several times a year, one of our members hosts a widows' brunch, typically around Christmas and Valentine's Day, and it is always a special time of friendship for our widows of all ages.
Our seniors are an also active part of our Men's and Women's Ministries and enjoy participating in the many opportunities for fellowship and recreation throughout the year.
Come, join us!
Grand Island Baptist believes in supporting missions work around the corner and around the world. We have special offerings during the year, such as the Annie Armstrong Easter offering for North American Missions, Florida Baptist Children's Home Mother's Day offering, Maguire State Missions Offering for Florida missions, and the Lottie Moon Christmas offering for International missions. We believe investment in these offerings is an investment in the work of the Kingdom.
Not only to we give to missions, we also desire to go. Past mission trips have included destinations as close as Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center and as far away as South Africa and Japan, Canada, Guatemala, Peru, Chili and the Dominican Republic. We partner with the Florida Baptist Children's Homes in Lakeland, FL and make several trips a year to serve in various capacities.
Women on Mission
Our Women on Mission group meets quarterly. We discuss mission work locally and around the world. We continually pray for the thousands of Southern Baptist missionaries who serve all over the world. Mission Magazine is given out each month to our ladies to share, so that all may read what is going on throughout the world in missions.
We share many projects together, like card-making, to help spread Jesus' love throughout our community. We help plan mission projects for our church and encourage the congregation to give to special mission offerings, such as: Annie Armstrong Easter offering for North American Missions, Florida Baptist Children's Home Mother's Day offering, Maguire State Missions Offering for Florida missions, and the Lottie Moon Christmas offering for International missions.
We also support Life's Choices of Lake County, which is a Christian crisis pregnancy center in Eustis, Fl.
Please join us for our next quarterly meeting and bring your ideas for mission projects. Watch the church newsletter, Lifeline, for information about dates and meeting times.
